I am an artist who loves to work with colour, fibres and textiles. I appreciate the precision of traditional techniques whilst enjoying the freedom of a more contemporary style. I use a variety of materials and include many techniques to achieve my objective. My work is recognised for its attention to detail, precision work, thread painting and fine stitching. I love to create pictorial art quilts that are detailed and tactile.
My quilts tell stories and carry messages. They speak of the past, the present and the future, hopes and dreams, our surroundings, the environment and all the things that we cherish and hold dear. They capture the essence of life.
I have exhibited quilts across Australia, in Japan and in the USA winning numerous awards which include Best of Shows, Trophies, Special Awards and Viewers Choices, as well as awards at the International Quilts Festival in Houston, USA. My quilts have been selected for inclusion in the “Best of The Best” Exhibition at the Australasian Quilting Convention in Melbourne.
I have been honoured to appear as the Special Guest Artist at many exhibitions and conventions, both in Australia and overseas.
I do appearances, presentations, demonstrations and trunk shows.
I am an Accredited Tutor and an Accredited Judge. I teach a wide variety of techniques, both traditional and non-traditional as well as mixed media work. My love of pictorial art influences my workshops in the sense that I prefer techniques to be accompanied by designs. Not only how to learn a technique, but also how to use it, and have fun doing so.
I teach locally, nationally and internationally. In May 2015 I had the privilege to teach in Fairbanks, Alaska, which was so very exciting.
My quilt titled “Beyond the Dream, The Impossible Dream” won the Royal Flying Doctors Services of Australia’s 80th Anniversary Challenge in 2008. It was selected for inclusion in a collection of works touring Australia for 12 months, winning the Viewers Choice Award in four States. It went on to win 1st Prize in its category at the IQA in Houston, USA. This quilt has since been donated to the R.F.D.S. and now proudly displayed at the Visitors Centre in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia.
I was born in Mauritius and immigrated to South Africa in 1967. After completing my schooling, I studied Accountancy, which was to prove very beneficial in future years. I moved to Namibia in 1982 and then onto Botswana in 1984. After 11 exciting and eventful years, I immigrated to Australia settling on a small farm in Denmark, on the south coast of Western Australia, before finally relocating to Perth five years later.
I am blessed with three wonderful children, a caring son-in-law and two very precious little grand-daughters, all of whom I am extremely proud of and love so dearly.
